Biography

Dr. Md. Sarfaraz Gani Adnan is currently working as a Post Doctoral Research Associate in Natural Hazards in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. He is contributing to an EU-funded project "Multi-hazard and risk-informed system for enhanced local and regional disaster risk management (MEDiate Horizon Europe CL3-2021-DRS-01)". He received a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) degree in Geography and the Environment from the University of Oxford, where he studied as a Commonwealth Scholar. He also obtained a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (BURP) degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and an MSc degree in International Cooperation and Urban Development from Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUD) of Germany as an Erasmus Mundus Scholar.

Dr. Adnan's interests include interdisciplinary research in the field of natural hazards, multi-hazard risk assessment and management, climate change adaptation, and spatial sciences. He has led pioneering work that addressed the complex flooding processes and flood adaptation options (structural and nature-based solutions) in the coastal region of Bangladesh. He has published articles in various reputed journals including Nature Sustainability, Science of the Total Environment, Environmental Research, Journal of Environmental Management, Environmental Research Letters, Land Use Policy, and so forth. He has received several research grants and scholarships during his academic career.

Dr. Adnan aims to continue his career in research and academia, where he has already spent more than 12 years.
