Biography

Dr. Md. Sarfaraz Gani Adnan is currently holding the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) of Bangladesh. He received a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) degree in Geography and the Environment from the University of Oxford, where he studied as a Commonwealth Scholar. He also obtained a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (BURP) degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and an MSc degree in International Cooperation and Urban Development from Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUD) of Germany as an Erasmus Mundus Scholar.

Dr. Adnan's interests include interdisciplinary research in the field of disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, natural hazards, vulnerability and risk assessment, geographic information systems, and remote sensing. He has led pioneering work that addressed the complex flooding processes and flood adaptation options (structural and nature-based solutions) in the coastal region of Bangladesh. He has published articles in various reputed journals including Nature Sustainability, Science of the Total Environment, Environmental Research, Environmental Research Letters, Land Use Policy, and so forth. He has received several research grants and scholarships during his academic career.

Dr. Adnan aims to continue his career in research and academia, where he has already spent more than 12 years.
